THE BOND COLLECTION

OUT OF SIGHT

Teenage/secret agent/musical comedy about Big Daddy (John Lawrence) who's been "driven mad by rock 'n' roll," so he plans to sabotage a music fair with a bomb. Secret agent Homer (Jonathan Daly) comes to the rescue aided by his girlfriend Sandra (Karen Jensen) along with Marvin (Carol Shelyne). The sinister villains belong to the crime syndicate F.L.U.S.H. Featuring the musical groups The Turtles, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, The Astronauts, The Knickerbockers and Freddy and the Dreamers.
More of a 60's "Pop" compilation than a spy soundtrack but it includes a few instrumentals including at least one "spy" flavored track.

CASINO ROYALE

One of The Crime Lounge's trusted Field Agents has infiltrated enemy lines and risked being tortured to bring this to us (well, he's rumaged around some dusty vinyl repositories).
A very fine example of the LP's produced during the sixties "Bond Mania" period. Here we have George Mann giving us some great spy inspired tunes, it's like a soundtrack to a TV show never made. Check out the sample for a taster, the album also includes a track called Sporting Girls which is a very Batman sounding track!
Our thanks go out to Rocket From Mars for finding, ripping, scanning this for The Lounge.

ELECTRONIKA BOND

A change is as good as a rest they say! So here we have a collection of Bond themes given the "Electronica" treatment by various artists. These type of albums can sometimes be a bit "hit and miss" but I think this is one of the better ones. There is a great version of Thunderball which sounds like they locked Klaus Wunderlich in a room full of modern gear and said "Groove away!".....wonderful!

As regular visitors will know, Roy Budd is one of my favourite Film Composers.
This is the incredibly score to the Michael Caine movie from 1974 Directed by thriller master Don Siegal. This is yet another powerhouse score from the Jazz pianist who successfully transferred to Movie scoring and beat the big-boys at their own game.

GREATEST P.I. THEMES

From the same people who brought us TV grestest Cop Themes comes this great collection of "P.I. Themes". Again most of these are the original versions including a couple taken from the actual Television tracks that include the voiceovers. Check out Johnny Williams' (yep, he of Star Wars etc). MANCINI'S GREATEST HITS

A nice collection of Henry Mancini's compositions conducted here by Erich Kunzel.
As with all of the Erich Kunzel releases on the Telarc label the quality of these recordings is outstanding. The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra along with the Mancini Chorus do a wonderful job of capturing the required sound to make these really shine. A wonderful collection.

CULT TV THEMES

Man can not live by bread alone! (he also needs some cheese now and then) and this album provides cheese aplenty. OK, it's not as bad as that, in fact there are some pretty good renditions of popular themes on here (example below) it's just that these "synth" versions can never re-create that big-bold orchestral sound. As usual with these albums no artist is named, instead we just have 18 themes from cult TV shows all performed (quite well it must be said) by an uncredited player and his keyboard.

SPY WITH A PIE

This is another novelty record from Rocket's vast archive!
This children's television character (real name Milton Supman) was quite popular back in the sixties but I'm not familiar with him or the show so I direct you to the ever unreliable Wickipedia entry to explain HERE. Some more info can be found HERE, including pictures of various merchandising.

THE DIRTY GAME

Why don't modern film soundtracks have great cover artwork like this?
This is the soundtrack to the sixties thriller starring Henry Fonda and Robert Ryan with music by Gian Piero Reverberi. I'm not familiar with the film myself but it looks good judging by the art (don't they always!). All the usual sixties thriller soundtrack elements are present. Thanks to Rocket and his ever expanding record collection for this great rip (and scans).

NAKED CITY

Here is great little collection of Crime & Easy/Lounge tunes from bongo legend Jack Costanzo.
Thanks to Filmpac for supplying this LP rip for us. Like he says it's not great quality at only @128 but a "low rip" is better than "no rip". There are some wonderful bongotastic tracks featured here including Route 66, Peter Gunn, The Third Man ans of course The Naked City theme. Also included are a few tracks from the lounge/exotica world including a bongozotica version of the great theme from A Summer Place.

HOLY FLYPAPER!

Including original music from the classic 60's version of Batman, this album also features a whole chunk of choice dialogue clips as well. The main theme is by Neal Hefti while all other music is written by Mr. Smooth himself, Nelson Riddle. Take a trip back to the Golden Age of television with this little gem.

It's a nice collection of sixties jazzy lounge music so will appeal to fans of both.

THEMEOLOGY

Another top-notch compilation of Barry's best, from his early John Barry Seven days up to Dances with Wolves. Again as well as the usual TV & Film tracks there are a few surprises, including the music from the 70's UK television commercial for Sunsilk shampoo, pure bliss! Great tunes from a Great composer!

BEST OF BARRY

This is a superb collection of John Barry's best themes from Film & TV.
All of these recordings are from his 1972-74 period on the Polydor label. As well as the usual movie tracks we also have some more unusual items like the theme to the classic ATV series The Adventurer. One thing which must be mentioned here is the (as always with Barry) incredible instrumentation and amazing orchestrations. Sit back and let the Guv'ner do his stuff.

THE UNKNOWN BOND

This is one of those collections of Bond themes that is rolled out whenever a new film gets released. Here we have a collection credited to "Film Score Orchestra", I'm sure you can work out that this is classic tracks culled from various sixties albums. It also contains some really bad versions of the newer themes by session musicians/singers but the gold is in the older stuff. The original artists are "unknown" even though the album credits them all to The Film Score Orchestra. Obviously there is no such Orchestra, it is quite clear listening to this that the tracks are from different artists and from many decades. It's about half classic and half trashic so be warned.

SCORED 1-0

Here is a collection of TV & Film themes by both well-know and unknown bands.
All performed by great Jazz musicians in the "Acid-Jazz" style.
It's the first release on JTI records, I'm not sure if it was a planned series being called 1-0.
It contains themes from Starsky & Hutch, Get Carter, Black Belt Jones and The Streets of San Fransisco amongst others.

THE OUTER LIMITS

"There is nothing wrong with your television set. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat, there is nothing wrong with your television set. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to... The Outer Limits."
